Description
What kind of wine is it
Champagne R.H. Coutier Grand Cru Cuvee Tradition Brut is a Traditional Method wine that faithfully reflects the identity of its region. The result of a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the wine opens with aromas of yellow fruit, apple, pear and plum. On the palate, the Champagne displays a powerful and silky profile, characterised by a pleasant roundness. The tasting experience is balanced by a fresh citrus note of lemon, leading to a long and persistent finish.
Where does it come from
This wine originates in Ambonnay, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, an area renowned for its fine Grand Cru vineyards. The vines sink their roots into chalky soils that ensure optimal drainage, giving the wine precision and vigour. R.H. Coutier operates as an independent winegrower, cultivating plots that include historic Chardonnay plantings. The estate adopts an approach based on organic viticulture, limiting interventions in the field to maximise the expression of the terroir.
How is it produced
The production process involves a careful blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with the secondary fermentation taking place in the bottle according to the principles of the Traditional Method. This is followed by a slow ageing on the lees for five years, an essential phase to give the wine finesse, silkiness and a complex aromatic integration. At the end of this maturation, disgorgement and the subsequent Brut dosage precisely define the structure of the palate, preserving the intense freshness of the sip.
History and Curiosities
For five generations, the R.H. Coutier family has embodied the spirit of Ambonnay, a prestigious Grand Cru of the Montagne de Reims. As independent winegrowers, they cultivate 9.3 hectares of chalky soils divided into 40 plots, tending to vines that are almost forty years old and historic Chardonnay plantings dating back to 1948. The Cuvée Tradition is the ultimate expression of the modern winery, created in 1981. With a philosophy of minimal intervention and organic conversion since 2020, the estate ensures an authentic legacy, awarded 89/100 by Vinous.

Across 9.3 hectares and 40 unique plots, our vines—averaging nearly four decades in age—tell a story of tradition and innovation. While Pinot Noir reigns supreme in this celebrated region, our estate stands apart: one third of our vineyards are Chardonnay, first planted in 1948 by Henri Coutier. Today, we proudly continue this pioneering spirit, crafting blends of remarkable finesse, balance, and character.
Since 1981, Nathalie and René have guided the estate with passion and precision. In 2014, their son Antoine joined them, carrying forward the family’s vision as the fifth generation of R.H. Coutier Champagne.
Our philosophy is simple yet profound: "as little as possible." By minimizing intervention, we allow the purest expression of our terroir to shine. Every choice in the vineyard and cellar is made with respect for nature, reducing our impact on the living world around us. In 2020, we began our journey toward certified organic viticulture, reaffirming our commitment to sustainability and authenticity.
