Description
What kind of wine it is
The Champagne Grand Cru Bout du Clos Extra Brut from R.H. Coutier is a refined Blanc de Noirs made from Pinot Noir grapes. In the glass, it displays a bright straw yellow colour and a fine perlage. The aromatic profile combines ripe fruits with inviting pastry notes, heralding a precise tasting experience. The palate is dry, fresh and persistent, thanks to the Extra Brut dosage. It is ideal for accompanying elegant aperitifs, shellfish, lean fish and cheese selections.
Where it comes from
This Champagne originates from Ambonnay, a prestigious village in the Montagne de Reims classified as a Grand Cru. Here, the presence of deep chalky soils and favourable exposures creates the perfect environment to enhance the profile of Pinot Noir. The R.H. Coutier family has managed these lands for five generations, promoting an approach that preserves the ecosystem. The estate adopts organic viticulture practices, limiting interventions to allow the terroir to express itself freely in the glass.
How it is produced
Production faithfully follows the Traditional Method, with secondary fermentation in the bottle for the prise de mousse. In line with the work in the vineyard, vinification is carried out with minimal intervention to protect the integrity of the fruit. After ageing on the lees, which softens the effervescence, a limited dosage of 1.5 g/l of residual sugar is added. This choice reinforces the wine’s vibrant character, ensuring a linear, clean and long-lasting tasting experience.
History and Curiosities

Across 9.3 hectares and 40 unique plots, our vines—averaging nearly four decades in age—tell a story of tradition and innovation. While Pinot Noir reigns supreme in this celebrated region, our estate stands apart: one third of our vineyards are Chardonnay, first planted in 1948 by Henri Coutier. Today, we proudly continue this pioneering spirit, crafting blends of remarkable finesse, balance, and character.
Since 1981, Nathalie and René have guided the estate with passion and precision. In 2014, their son Antoine joined them, carrying forward the family’s vision as the fifth generation of R.H. Coutier Champagne.
Our philosophy is simple yet profound: "as little as possible." By minimizing intervention, we allow the purest expression of our terroir to shine. Every choice in the vineyard and cellar is made with respect for nature, reducing our impact on the living world around us. In 2020, we began our journey toward certified organic viticulture, reaffirming our commitment to sustainability and authenticity.
