Description
What kind of wine it is
Irpinia Falanghina Via del Campo by Quintodecimo is a still white wine with the Irpinia designation, produced in Campania exclusively from Falanghina grapes and vinified in steel and oak barrels. In the glass, it displays a bright golden yellow hue, opening to an aromatic profile with fragrant notes of apple, banana and pineapple, intertwined with deep saline and mineral hints. On the palate, it reveals an enveloping structure and vibrant freshness, finishing with remarkable persistence enriched by delicate menthol and toasted nuances. This refined harmony makes it ideal to pair with seafood, shellfish and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Campania, in the Irpinia area, in the municipality of Mirabella Eclano, from the precise oenological vision of Luigi Moio. The vines grow in the eponymous vineyard on clay-limestone soils at 150 metres altitude with a western exposure. These pedoclimatic characteristics, combined with agricultural management using the Guyot system, ensure low yields per plant, favouring a deep aromatic concentration. The interaction between the nature of the soil and the microclimate gives the grapes a pronounced savouriness, outlining the typical mineral character of the production.
How it is produced
The production process begins in the first ten days of October with manual harvesting and selection of the bunches on sorting tables. After gentle pressing and static decantation, the must ferments at a controlled temperature partly in steel vats and partly in French oak barrels. The wine continues to mature in contact with the fine lees in the same containers, then completes its journey with 8 months of bottle ageing. This synergy of processes ensures impeccable structural balance, integrating the freshness of the fruit with elegant tertiary developments.
History and Curiosities
The result of the vision of oenologist Luigi Moio and his wife Laura, the Quintodecimo project enhances native Campanian grape varieties with rare elegance. This Irpinia DOC comes entirely from the vineyard of the same name in Mirabella Eclano, planted in 2004 following the strict principles of organic viticulture. Created to elevate pure Falanghina to a level of excellence, this wine, awarded 93 points by Vinous, faithfully reflects the authentic Irpinian terroir, challenging tradition to offer a complex and memorable tasting experience.
