Description
What kind of wine is it
Le Volte dell’Ornellaia Magnum Ornellaia is a Tuscan red wine with Indicazione Geografica Tipica status, created from a skilful blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Distinguished by a brilliant purple-red colour, it releases enveloping aromas of cherry and wild strawberry, enriched with spicy notes, leather and fresh hints of menthol. On the palate, it reveals a firm structure and a pleasant juiciness, where velvety tannins intertwine with a crisp acidity, finishing with a long, fruity aftertaste, supported by fermentation in stainless steel and ageing in barrels.
Where does it come from
This wine originates from the prestigious Bolgheri area, at the Ornellaia estate in Castagneto Carducci. The soils, rich in limestone, sand and pebbles, give the sip a dense and elegant texture. The careful September harvest ensures fruit of great concentration, while preserving the aromatic vibrancy typical of these vineyards.
How is it produced
Vinification is carried out separately for each variety in stainless steel tanks, where both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation are completed. This is followed by ten months of ageing in tanks and used French barrels, a fundamental step to enrich the wine with harmonious complexity.
History and Curiosities
Born in 1991, Le Volte dell’Ornellaia masterfully expresses the essence and prestige of the namesake estate in Castagneto Carducci. This promising 2024 vintage offers a dynamic Tuscan wine of exceptional harmony, the result of a skilful September harvest. The careful ageing for 10 months in French barriques, previously used for the renowned Masseto and Ornellaia, gives this prestigious Magnum format an elegant structure and juicy complexity, qualities widely recognised by the excellent scores from Decanter and Vinous.

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia was founded in 1981, in a beautiful, unspoiled part of Tuscany. From the outset, the mission was to produce outstanding wines. Since then passion and dedication, coupled with a unique terroir and an extraordinary microclimate, have brought the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia's prestigious labels great success and recognition as one of the most important wineries in the world.
Vision
A little more than 20 years ago, a revelation: the future of Italian viticulture had to take a new enological path, in search of absolute quality. To achieve this goal, the proper place, proper time, and best people were needed. This led to the idea of the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, a place of infinite potential, cultivated with wisdom and experience by its "artists," who seek, with every vintage, a new masterpiece.
Philosophy
Production limited to the course of the year, harvesting by hand only after full ripeness, individual vinification for each vineyard, respect for a unique and precious terroir. These are just some of the choices made by Ornellaia, in a philosophy that has privileged quality from the very beginning. Thanks to women and men who put their arms, soul, head and heart into their work, all year round. And the results can be seen, but above all tasted... Read more
