Description

What kind of wine it is

Tre Rocche by Nicolucci is a still red wine, Romagna Sangiovese Superiore, which embodies the essence of the Sangiovese grape variety in Emilia-Romagna. To the eye, it displays a garnet red colour with violet highlights. The fragrant bouquet reveals notes of cherry, pomegranate and violet, enriched by subtle spicy and herbal nuances. On the palate, it is dry, rounded and velvety, supported by harmonious tannins and a pleasant freshness. Thanks to its balanced structure, it is perfect for accompanying Romagna cuisine, red meats, mature cheeses or flavourful fish soups.

Where it comes from

This Romagna Sangiovese Superiore originates in Emilia-Romagna, from the hillside vineyards of Predappio situated at over three hundred metres above sea level. The vines grow on clay-limestone soils rich in minerals, an ideal condition to ensure a clear aromatic definition. In this area, the cultivation of a local clone allows for an impeccable balance between fruit ripeness and the elegance of the tannic texture. Nicolucci's commitment results in a clear territorial identity, giving rise to a wine with measured structure, depth and always faithful to the integrity of the fruit.

How it is produced

Vinification follows the traditional red method. Subsequently, the wine matures for six months in large oak barrels, a crucial step to integrate its structure and enrich it with delicate spicy notes, always respecting the nature of the fruit. A further period of bottle ageing stabilises the flavour profile. The choice not to filter preserves the expressive integrity of the grape variety. To fully appreciate the balance between freshness and smoothness, it is recommended to decant for about an hour, serving the wine at an ideal temperature between eighteen and twenty degrees.

History and Curiosities

A true expression of Emilia-Romagna, Tre Rocche from Fattoria Nicolucci is born on the historic hills of Predappio. This wine enhances the prized local Sangiovese clone, cultivated organically on clay-limestone soils rich in minerals, which are able to convey an authentic territorial identity. Appreciated by wine critics, the label stands out for its artisanal vinification: the complete absence of filtration and the traditional ageing in large barrels ensure an elegant evolution and lasting harmony of flavour.

The estate Fattoria Nicolucci di Nicolucci Alessandro has been producing vintage wines at Predappio Alta (a vine growing area historically renowned in Romagna) since 1885. Indeed since the year 1000, as quoted in the municipal statutes of the time, the local economy was based on sangiovese vine growing: feudatories used to distribute the large vineyards among their peasants who’d take the greatest care of Bacchus’ trees.

Fattoria Nicolucci is a typical Italian estate, a family run farm driven by the concept that the variety must match the terroir and climate; that’s why it continues to set the standard for Romagna and remains at the forefront of the region’s top wine producers. Today, the winery and vineyards are operated under the same guiding principles with fourth generation wine-dresser Alessandro at the helm. Predappio has its own microclimates, its own traditions, and its own history, all of which are reflected in the wine produced at Fattoria Nicolucci.
