Description
What type of wine it is
The Barbera d’Alba Vigna Pugnane by Marengo is a red wine with a Controlled Designation of Origin, featuring a vivid ruby colour, capable of precisely expressing the identity of the Piedmontese territory. On the nose, it opens with an intense and multifaceted bouquet, characterised by notes of ripe red fruit, accents of aromatic herbs, and a delicate spiciness. On the palate, it is smooth and savoury, supported by a vibrant acidity that balances a structured texture, enriched by ageing in barrels. The long and fragrant finish makes it ideal for accompanying traditional Piedmontese dishes, as well as roast meats and savoury cheeses.
Where it comes from
This expression of Barbera originates from vineyards cultivated on the hills of Castagnole Monferrato, an area of Piedmont historically dedicated to viticulture. The Marengo winery, whose roots date back to 1899, has always sought privileged sun exposure for its rows. This rigorous approach in the vineyard encourages an optimal concentration of the clusters, resulting in a glass of remarkable aromatic depth. The peculiarities of this territory produce a wine predisposed to evolve over time, ensuring a longevity that can reach ten years.
How it is produced
The Barbera grapes destined for this label are carefully selected to preserve the intensity and natural freshness of the fruit. After the fermentation phase, under the guidance of oenologist Giuseppe Caviola, the wine rests in barrels for nineteen months, an essential step that enriches its aromatic complexity while maintaining great balance. The production approach integrates varietal characteristics with spicy notes derived from ageing. To best appreciate every nuance, one hour of decanting is recommended before serving, at a temperature between sixteen and eighteen degrees.
