Description

What kind of wine it is

Alsace Complantation Sec by Marcel Deiss is an organic white wine with a firm and dry character. It is born from the synergy between Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Gewürztraminer, grown together to express the deepest essence of the terroir. On the nose, it offers a lively and fruity bouquet, where notes of lemon, white flowers, pineapple and yellow peach intertwine. On the palate, it reveals itself as energetic, combining the softness of a mature body with a refreshing crispness, enhanced by a clear salinity.

Where it comes from

Its origin takes us to Alsace, specifically to the Bergheim area. Here, the estate manages the vineyards with a strictly sustainable approach. The vines sink their roots into various clay-limestone terroirs, situated on hillsides that benefit from optimal sun exposure. This particular soil matrix gives the plants the energy needed to develop a well-defined savouriness. The surrounding natural environment imparts a distinct aromatic precision to the wine, faithfully reflecting the geological identity of the place.

How it is produced

Production is based on the ancient practice of complantation, a genuine field blend that involves cultivating different varieties in the same plot. The entire management follows the principles of organic farming, carefully respecting natural cycles. The winemaking process aims to balance the structure of the palate and preserve the integrity of the fruit. This meticulous care results in a vibrant and dynamic wine, characterised by a solid evolutionary potential that allows it to mature harmoniously over time.

History and Curiosities

The Alsace Complantation 2023 by Marcel Deiss expresses the pure essence of Bergheim through a organic and sustainable approach. Under the expert guidance of Jean-Michel Deiss, the estate combines Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Gewürztraminer grown in perfect synergy on clay-limestone soils. This ancient viticultural practice gives the dry white wine extraordinary energy, intertwining floral aromas and notes of yellow peach with a fresh savouriness, offering an ageing potential that can reach up to ten years.

Domaine Marcel DEISS is located in Bergheim, a small village nestling in the heart of the wine region of Alsace, equidistant from the northern and southern boundaries of the region. Current winemaker Jean-Michel DEISS was born into a long-established family of wine growers, living at BERGHEIM since 1744.

Managed today by Jean-Michel DEISS, the domaine consists of 26 hectares (52 acres) of hillside vineyards spread over 9 communes and approximately 20 kilometers.

The extreme variation in conditions of production at the domaine have led Jean-Michel DEISS to seek to express in each wine the three factors that make a wine complete : the grape variety, the vintage and the terroir.

The greater the wine, the more the gustatory characteristics linked to the soil take the place of the typicity linked to grape variety or vintage.

When speaking of terroir, the following have to be taken into consideration : geology, pedology, climate and microclimate, technical exploitation of the character of the soil, microfauna and flor, and the traditional methods and techniques used to produce wines.
