Description

What kind of wine it is

Ferrata Sauvignon by Maculan is a white wine with a typical geographical indication from Veneto, featuring an intense straw yellow colour and matured in steel, which precisely expresses the varietal character of Sauvignon. On the nose, it offers a rich and complex aromatic profile, characterised by notes of ripe fruit enhanced by elegant hints of saffron and peach. On the palate, it is dry and structured, with a remarkable persistence on the finish where delicate hints of citrus and mint emerge. Its clean taste makes it ideal for pairing with fish dishes, shellfish, white meats and cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine derives its identity from the Ferrata vineyard in Breganze, Veneto. The vines grow on volcanic and tuffaceous hills, an excellent terroir that directly influences the development of the grapes. The specific soil composition imparts a vibrant vitality to the sip, favouring a well-defined aromatic profile and an elegant structure. The deep connection with the area of origin is reflected in a white wine capable of offering a perfect balance between liveliness and freshness.

How it is produced

Production begins with a cold maceration lasting two days, a fundamental technique for fully extracting the primary aromas of Sauvignon. This is followed by gentle pressing in hyper-reduction, a technical measure aimed at limiting oxidation and preserving the purity of the fruit. Ageing takes place for six months in stainless steel tanks, a deliberate choice to maintain the wine's freshness and tension. This careful process results in a well-balanced white, with a clean finish punctuated by clear hints of tropical fruit.

Our story began in a little osteria in Mirabella, a hamlet of Breganze. Here, from the 1920s to the ‘40s, great-grandfather Gaetano produced some of the wine that served to quench the thirst of passing cart drivers.

It was grandfather Giovanni who founded the actual winery, in 1947. Between the ‘50s and ‘60s he specialized in producing substantial quantities of white and red wines, which he distributed in large-sized bottles to osterie, trattorias and grocers’ shops, the so-called "casoini".

The revolution – from a quality point of view – was the work of Fausto. In 1973, after finishing his studies in Conegliano, he returned to the company and took over the reins of the business. In spite of some initial difficulties, his tenaciousness, thirst for knowledge and desire to experiment in both the vineyards and winery led the young oenologist to become one of the major innovators in Italian wine.

Today, Maria Vittoria and Angela share the running of the estate with their father Fausto. Thanks to their professionalism and enterprise, they represent the future of the Maculan company, focusing on technological innovation, sustainability and internationalization.
