Description
What kind of wine it is
Ferrata Chardonnay by Maculan is a white wine with Indicazione Geografica Tipica from Veneto, made from Chardonnay grapes fermented in oak barrels. To the eye, it presents a straw yellow colour with golden hues. On the nose, it reveals notes of tropical fruit and peach, enriched by hints of saffron, toasted almond and vanilla. On the palate, this wine expresses a dry and full-bodied character, balanced by fresh citrus and mint sensations that ensure a remarkable persistence of flavour; it is ideal paired with flavourful risottos, white meats and fish dishes.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the vineyards of Tenuta Ferrata in Breganze, an area tended by Maculan since 1946. The vines sink their roots into lean hillside soils, characterised by a volcanic and tuffaceous matrix with an eastern exposure. This particular geological composition allows the Chardonnay to develop a well-defined aromatic expression, ensuring a full and dry structure. The influence of the soil gives the final profile a linear personality and deep harmony.
How it is produced
The vinification process begins with a cold maceration lasting two days, followed by gentle pressing in hyper-reduction to preserve the integrity of the aromas. Fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels from Allier, where the wine rests on the lees for five months, acquiring complexity and structural elegance. The process concludes with a final maturation of twelve months, allowing the wine to reach full expressive maturity and an ideal balance of flavour.

It was grandfather Giovanni who founded the actual winery, in 1947. Between the ‘50s and ‘60s he specialized in producing substantial quantities of white and red wines, which he distributed in large-sized bottles to osterie, trattorias and grocers’ shops, the so-called "casoini".
The revolution – from a quality point of view – was the work of Fausto. In 1973, after finishing his studies in Conegliano, he returned to the company and took over the reins of the business. In spite of some initial difficulties, his tenaciousness, thirst for knowledge and desire to experiment in both the vineyards and winery led the young oenologist to become one of the major innovators in Italian wine.
Today, Maria Vittoria and Angela share the running of the estate with their father Fausto. Thanks to their professionalism and enterprise, they represent the future of the Maculan company, focusing on technological innovation, sustainability and internationalization. Read more
