Description
What kind of wine it is
Livio Felluga's Chardonnay, originating from the Colli Orientali del Friuli, is a still white wine with Controlled Designation of Origin status, featuring a complex aromatic profile, vinified and matured on the lees in stainless steel. It displays an intense straw yellow hue and reveals on the nose a bouquet of white oleander, apple, pineapple and hints of vanilla. On the palate, it is soft and velvety, with fresh citrus notes of lime and a structure supported by good savouriness, culminating in a persistent mineral and iodine finish.
Where it comes from
This wine is born on the hills of eastern Friuli, in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. The vineyards, mainly cultivated using the Guyot system, take root in an exceptional terroir composed of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin, locally known as flysch. This specific geological matrix is fundamental in defining the expression of Chardonnay in this region, giving the sip a savoury texture and a distinct territorial imprint. The hilly environment and the peculiar soil composition favour a harmonious ripening of the grapes.
How it is produced
The harvest is carried out by hand, carefully selecting only healthy bunches that have reached perfect ripeness. Vinification begins with gentle destemming and a brief maceration, followed by soft pressing and subsequent settling of the must. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The wine completes its journey with ageing on the lees for six months, always in steel, a practice that enhances its creaminess and evolutionary potential. The production cycle concludes with a period of rest in temperature-controlled rooms for at least two months after bottling.
