Description

What kind of wine it is

Les Cretes Chardonnay is a still white wine that fully expresses the vitality of its region. Chardonnay, here vinified in the musqué clone variant, reflects the rigour of the Aosta Valley terroir. In the glass, it presents a bright straw yellow, opening with a floral bouquet enlivened by notes of banana, plum and broom. The palate is precise: the soft, savoury texture is supported by a marked minerality that perfectly balances the taste. This fresh expression is ideal for accompanying vegetarian dishes, white meats and lean fish.

Where it comes from

The grapes grow in the mountain vineyards of Frissonnière di Saint Christophe, cultivated according to the strict principles of heroic viticulture. The rows are situated between 600 and 850 metres above sea level, where the favourable north-east exposure ensures a taut and fresh sip. The vines sink their roots into sloping moraine soils, whose loose, sandy matrix ensures rapid drainage. Such richness of the soil supports the wine's pronounced savoury component, while Guyot training helps maintain the balance between fruit ripeness and the finesse of the aromas.

How it is produced

After manual harvesting, the grapes are chilled and gently pressed as whole bunches. Fermentation lasts twelve days in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, an essential practice to preserve the varietal aromas of Chardonnay. This is followed by targeted ageing on the lees enhanced by the bâtonnage technique: this careful step imparts structural roundness, while preserving the unmistakable freshness and lively aromatic definition offered by the alpine environment.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1989 by the Charrère family, custodians of these lands since 1750, Les Cretes embodies the essence of heroic viticulture in the Aosta Valley. Now in its sixth generation, the winery manages 35 hectares of mountain vineyards, combining artisanal expertise with respect for the environment. Here, a magnificent expression of the musqué clone from Burgundy comes to life, having found its ideal habitat in the Alpine altitudes. This dedication gives the Chardonnay an unmistakable character, marked by a profound mineral elegance.
