Description
What kind of wine it is
Leonardo da Vinci Sauvignon Rubicone Uve portate a Cesena is a white wine from Emilia-Romagna that best expresses the characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc. It appears a bright straw yellow, enhanced by lively green reflections. On the nose, it releases intense varietal aromas of broom, eucalyptus, grapefruit and lime, with hints of kiwi and a delicate note of green pepper. On the palate, it is fresh and dynamic, supported by a pronounced savouriness that balances the softness of the body, finishing with a long citrusy aftertaste.
Where it comes from
Produced by Leonardo da Vinci, this wine originates in the Cesena area, within the Rubicone region. The vineyards are located at an altitude between one hundred and three hundred metres, with a north and north-east exposure, optimal conditions for the development of the aromatic profile. The fine-textured clay-silt soils impart a clear mineral character, while the Guyot training system ensures perfect vegetative balance. Harvesting takes place in September to preserve the freshness and integrity of the fruit.
How it is produced
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for about ten days, thus preserving the primary aromas of the grapes. Maturation continues in steel to maintain a clean and immediate drinkability. It is a perfect wine to accompany sushi, shellfish and various vegetarian dishes. It pairs harmoniously with the spicy notes of Asian cuisine and elegantly enhances the bold flavour of a goat's cheese.
History and Curiosities
A true tribute to the genius of Leonardo, the 1502 Sauvignon Rubicone IGT celebrates his historic presence in Emilia-Romagna. The evocative phrase Grapes brought to Cesena deeply roots the wine's identity in its place of origin. Created by oenologist Riccardo Pucci for the historic Cantine Leonardo da Vinci, founded in 1961, this 2023 vintage showcases extraordinary oenological mastery.

The original headquarters, restructured and enlarged, are still the operative centre today. The winery is situated in the borough of Vinci, just 5 kilometres from the birthplace of the world famous artist and inventor Leonardo.
The co-operative takes its name from the great man, paying homage to the mind of the man who was universally recognised as a genius and to emphasise its deep-rooted bond with the territory, the same bond which Leonardo felt and whose surname is specifically associated with the village where he was born on 15 April 1452.
Today, Cantine Leonardo da Vinci is a pioneering co-operative, innovative and modern, which relies on the work and grape production of its 160 members. Read more
