Description

What kind of wine it is

J. Hofstatter Vigna Kolbenhof Gewurztraminer is an aromatic white wine from Alto Adige. In the glass, it displays an intense yellow colour with bright greenish highlights. On the nose, aromas of peach and apricot intertwine with exotic notes of lychee, mango and passion fruit. On the palate, the concentration of fruit is perfectly balanced by a delicate acidity, which gives balance and agility to the sip. Its persistence makes it ideal to pair with spicy Asian cuisine or refined dishes such as foie gras.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Termeno, the result of a selection within the Kolbenhof estate, a benchmark plot for Gewürztraminer in Alto Adige thanks to its microclimate and ideal exposure. The vines sink their roots into soils composed of clay and calcareous gravel, elements that give the wine a precise structure and a well-defined flavour profile. The mention Vigna highlights the inseparable link with the single vineyard of origin, a value that J. Hofstatter has cultivated with dedication since 1907.

How it is produced

The production process begins with a gentle crushing of the grapes; the must remains in contact with the skins for several hours to fully extract the varietal characteristics. This is followed by soft pressing, natural clarification and fermentation at a controlled temperature. Maturation takes place exclusively in stainless steel, where the wine rests on the lees for seven months to preserve its expressive purity. A brief ageing in the cellar then precedes release, completing a profile of great elegance.

History and Curiosities

Since 1907, in Termeno, J. Hofstätter has infused the Vigna Kolbenhof Gewürztraminer with the winemaking expertise of five generations. The excellence of this wine originates from a single vineyard, recognised as one of the most prestigious crus of Alto Adige DOC. Thanks to the vision of oenologist Martin Foradori Hofstätter, the Vigna designation guarantees absolute fidelity to the territory of origin, enhancing a distinctive and authentic identity.

The wisdom of generations. The drive to continuously create something new together. Our family winery’s story stretches back to the 19th century. Anticipating the future, just like Paolo Foradori. He once coins the term "Vigna" – marking the dawn of single-vineyard classification in Alto Adige. Pioneering spirit is deeply ingrained in our family heritage. Today, it is led by Martin and Beatrix Foradori Hofstätter, supported by the next generation: Niklas and Emma.

We uphold the highest standards every single day. In the vineyard, this means nurturing our vines through gentle pruning and the use of cover crops to enhance their strength. In the wine cellar, innovation meets tradition, as we age our wines in both classic wooden barrels and modern concrete vats. Cutting-edge cellar technology also plays an essential role in ensuring the quality of our wines.
