Description

What kind of wine it is

Vigna Gewurztraminer Castel Rechtenthal Riserva is an aromatic white wine from Hofstatter, a true expression of Alto Adige. Made from Traminer Aromatico grapes, it stands out for its fresh style and a light, precise sip. Its natural acidity makes it ideal as an aperitif and to accompany spicy dishes or Asian cuisine, while also enhancing the flavour of shellfish, lean fish and cheeses.

Where it comes from

The vineyards are located in Termeno, on a hill above Castel Rechtenthal, at the foot of Monte Roen. Here, the vines take root in gravelly, dolomitic soil, rich in marine sedimentary rocks. The area benefits from cool winds coming from the Höllentalbach stream, which are essential for maintaining lively tension in the grapes. This microclimate enhances the bouquet of the Traminer Aromatico, defining its typical gustatory precision.

How it is produced

The production process begins with a manual harvest, aimed at selecting only the best bunches. The subsequent vinification and maturation in steel preserve the natural fragrance of the fruit and the purity of the sip. During ageing, bâtonnage is practised, regularly stirring the fine lees to harmonise the softness on the palate. This step gives structure, resulting in a balanced white wine with a well-ordered sensory profile.

History and Curiosities

On the gravelly and calcareous hill overlooking Rechtenthal Castle, at the foot of Mount Roen in Termeno, a prestigious Alto Adige DOC is born. Here, the cool winds from the Höllentalbach stream caress the Traminer Aromatico grapes, expertly hand-picked. Hofstatter thus presents a Gewürztraminer Riserva 2022 of immense elegance, enhanced by delicate maturation in steel with bâtonnage. An award-winning oenological masterpiece, it has achieved an impressive 94 points from Vinous, the Cinque Grappoli from Bibenda, and the Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso.

The wisdom of generations. The drive to continuously create something new together. Our family winery’s story stretches back to the 19th century. Anticipating the future, just like Paolo Foradori. He once coins the term "Vigna" – marking the dawn of single-vineyard classification in Alto Adige. Pioneering spirit is deeply ingrained in our family heritage. Today, it is led by Martin and Beatrix Foradori Hofstätter, supported by the next generation: Niklas and Emma.

We uphold the highest standards every single day. In the vineyard, this means nurturing our vines through gentle pruning and the use of cover crops to enhance their strength. In the wine cellar, innovation meets tradition, as we age our wines in both classic wooden barrels and modern concrete vats. Cutting-edge cellar technology also plays an essential role in ensuring the quality of our wines.
