Description
What type of wine it is
J. Charpentier Extra Brut Champagne is an elegant blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier that expresses a dry profile and a marked freshness. To the eye, it is straw yellow with greenish highlights, enlivened by a fine and persistent perlage. The nose opens with notes of lemon and white flowers, enriched by hints of caramel. On the palate, this Traditional Method wine proves to be crisp and mineral, with echoes of green apple and yellow plum leading to a clean finish of excellent persistence.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in France, in the prestigious Champagne region, between Villers-sous-Châtillon and the vineyards of Le Breuil and Châtillon-sur-Marne. The area, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers ideal pedoclimatic conditions, giving the wine a taut and precise character. J. Charpentier has operated as an independent winegrower for five generations, leading a company deeply rooted in its land. Through organic and sustainable practices, the winery preserves the integrity of the raw materials, faithfully enhancing the mineral qualities of the soil.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with alcoholic fermentation in steel vats and oak barrels, defining the wine's aromatic architecture. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation completes the structural balance. The effervescence is obtained strictly according to the Traditional Method, through a slow secondary fermentation that guarantees continuous tactile finesse. The low dosage keeps the expression of the grape varieties pure, delivering a dry and deep taste, capable of reflecting the terroir in every nuance.
History and interesting facts
This 2019 Vintage celebrates five generations of the J. Charpentier family, historic independent winegrowers of Villers-sous-Châtillon, in a UNESCO-protected territory. The result of organic and sustainable viticulture in the crus of Le Breuil and Châtillon-sur-Marne, this cuvée reflects a meticulous artisanal approach. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled vats and oak barrels, followed by a slow secondary fermentation. This results in a distinctive Classic Method, capable of capturing the essence of the local heritage.

The union of Pierre and Marguerite Charpentier bore three sons. Marcellin, who took over from his father in 1946 began developing the champagne in 1954 with Marcellin's brand Charpentier. He and his wife, Solange, had three children, including Jacky, born in 1949. In 1960, Marcellin died prematurely and Solange continued her husband's work with Jacky and his brothers.
1983 saw the first expansion of the cellar and in 1987 a great technological innovation was introduced: thermoregulation. At that time very few winemakers there were equipped with this.
There was further extension in 1997 with diversification of the vinification methods using 200L barrels along with setting up several French oak tanks.
Claudine Charpentier and Jacky had two sons, Jean Marc, the eldest, was born in 1979 and also Marie-Pierre, born in 1988. After obtaining high school, Jean Marc received his BTS Viticulture and Enology. His passion for wine encouraged him to take the National diploma in Oenology (DNO) and after two years he had a wine and marketing masters. Read more
