Description

What kind of wine it is

Istine Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Mezzapiaggia is an organic still red wine with a pronounced territorial identity, made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes. It displays an intense ruby red hue, opening up to a bouquet with clear floral notes. On the palate, it reflects the elegant structure typical of the grape variety, with a dry, balanced profile and remarkable depth of flavour. Its well-defined tannins and prolonged persistence make it the ideal pairing for succulent meats and game, while also integrating perfectly with pork dishes and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the finest plots of the Vigna Mezzapiaggia, located on the outskirts of Siena, in the Chianti Classico region. The vineyard sits between 250 and 300 metres above sea level, benefiting from a varied exposure: north-facing at the top and east-facing at the bottom. This climatic configuration encourages a gradual ripening of the grapes. The soils are characterised by fine lacustrine deposits, with a predominantly clay texture that influences the longevity of the wine's organoleptic profile. Istine cultivates these lands according to the principles of organic farming, confirming its status as an authentic expression of the work of Independent Winegrowers.

How it is produced

The vines are trained using the Guyot system and the bunches are harvested through a rigorous manual harvest. In the winery, alcoholic fermentation in concrete lasts for about fifteen to twenty days at a controlled temperature. This is followed by a long process of maceration on the skins with a submerged cap, lasting around forty-five days, together with malolactic fermentation also carried out in concrete tanks. The wine then matures for fifteen months in Austrian oak barrels. The cycle concludes with a further eighteen months of bottle ageing, an essential step to consolidate the balance and longevity of the Sangiovese.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1982, the family-run Istine winery enhances the territory of Radda in Chianti under the guidance of oenologist Angela Fronti. This Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is produced from the pure vinification of Sangiovese grapes, carefully selected from the Mezzapiaggia vineyard, on the outskirts of Siena. A true expression of the Independent Winegrowers, the company stands out for its certified organic cultivation and deep respect for nature. Prestigious accolades include 92 points from Vinous and 4 Viti AIS.

The winery is relatively young and is owned by the Fronti family, whose origins are proudly peasants. In 1959 Bruno Fronti creates a service business in agriculture, which grows successfully thanks to the collaboration with his sons Fabio and Stefano. Agrichianti is today one of the most established companies in earthmoving, vineyard and green management. After many years in the viticutural business, in 1982 the family buys its first hectares of land, where they plant their vineyards. Today we own about 20 hectares of vineyards, mainly in the municipal area of Radda in Chianti, but also in Gaiole in Chianti. These vineyards are not in a single plot, but in separate parcels.e aspiration of the separate vinification of Sangiovese, depending on the vineyard of origin, thus obtaining different wines depending only on the characteristics of that specific vineyard, such as exposure, soil and altitude.

With the introduction of the second generation into the company, it is natural to start our own production in the bottle. The 2009 harvest and the first 3000 bottles of Chianti Classico concretely represent what has always been the great passion for wine, thus integrating and completing the family business.

The commitment for the future is to evolve and grow, while remaining faithful to the traditions and to our territory, trying to enhance as much as possible what nature is offering us and the viticultural peculiarities of the highest lands of the Chianti region.

We are certified organic since 2016. We believe in respect for nature, for the people working in the vineyard and for those who taste the wine in the glass.
