Description

What type of wine it is

160 Anni is a still red wine from the Calabria appellation, crafted by Ippolito 1845 and an authentic expression of the Gaglioppo grape variety, produced through the drying of the grapes. In the glass, it shows a deep ruby colour, while the nose reveals aromas of undergrowth, notes of violet, hints of raisins and sweet spices. The tasting reveals a complex structure and an enveloping roundness, closing with a satisfying persistence. It is ideal for accompanying braised meats, game and mature cheeses, or to be enjoyed at the end of a meal.

Where it comes from

This wine is born in the vineyards of Cirò Marina. Part of the Calabria appellation, the 160 Anni faithfully reflects the character of its land of origin.

How it is produced

The process begins with the manual selection of the best bunches, left to wither on racks until the end of November to concentrate aromas and substance. Subsequently, the dried grapes are macerated and combined with wine from fresh grapes, creating a blend that harmonises concentration and finesse. The journey culminates with ageing in oak barrels for over a year. This step shapes the wine's profile, defining its structural softness and ensuring a long-lasting finish.

It was in 1845 when Vincenzo Ippolito embellished his initials on the country house in the Cirò marina between vineyards, olive groves and orange trees. In a very varied agriculture, the vines begin to play an important role, although the wine consumption was strictly local. With more than 160 years of history, Ippolito Winery is the oldest winery in Calabria. Located in the historic center of Cirò Marina, the heart of Calabrian viticulture, the farm includes an estate of over 100 hectares, distributed between gentle hills and sunny plains close to the Ionian Sea, located in the classical Cirò area. The corporate mission has always been the recovery and valorisation of native grape varieties such as Gaglioppo, White Greek, Calabrian and lastly the Sheep. Through constant research, the use of innovative techniques, direct control of all production processes, we seek in our wines elegance, exclusivity and identity with their own territory. A fascinating challenge faced in the sign of absolute quality. Today, the company boasts 14 labels on 4 continents, a fact that more than any other confirms a significant entrepreneurial dynamism.
