Description
What kind of wine it is
C’era Una Volta Riesling by Losito e Guarini is a still white wine that captures the essence of Oltrepò Pavese. Made from Riesling Italico grapes in Lombardy, it displays a straw-yellow colour with golden highlights. The bouquet offers floral scents and notes of fresh fruit such as pear, peach and apricot. On the palate it is dry and lively, with pronounced freshness and a savoury progression towards a mineral finish. Maturation in steel preserves the integrity of the fruit, ensuring perfect aromatic clarity.
Where it comes from
This wine is born in the heart of Oltrepò Pavese, where the grape variety enjoys an ideal habitat. The vineyards grow on clay-silt soils, enriched with arenaceous limestone and gypsum. This geological matrix encourages a dry drink and marked savouriness, supporting the mineral tension in the glass. The variety boasts fascinating origins, between the ancient Roman grape and influences from Central Europe. In this region, Losito e Guarini winery has been operating since 1910, translating the viticultural bond into labels with clear and rigorous character.
How it is produced
Production begins with manual harvesting and destemming. To maximise the aromas, the grapes undergo cryomaceration and gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature to preserve the liveliness of the must. The wine rests in stainless steel tanks to maintain its organoleptic characteristics. Served between 8 and 12 °C, it is an ideal aperitif and a versatile gastronomic pairing, perfect with shellfish, grilled seafood, white meats and vegetable dishes.
History and Curiosities
Produced in the Oltrepò Pavese DOC, this captivating Riesling Italico celebrates a deeply rooted winemaking tradition. In this region, which boasts one of the largest vineyard areas in Italy with its 1,500 hectares, the Losito e Guarini winery has been passing down its oenological expertise since 1910. The origins of the grape variety, both fascinating and mysterious, range from the ancient Roman grape Animea Gemella to Central Europe. This heritage gives rise to an excellent wine, awarded 96 points by Luca Maroni and a silver medal at Mundus Vini.
