Description
What kind of wine it is
Gualdo del Re Vermentino is a still white wine produced in Tuscany, made exclusively from Vermentino grapes. It stands out for its bright straw-yellow colour and a varied aromatic profile, where clear notes of yellow flowers are combined with hints of peach and citrus. On the palate, it reveals a rich and complex character, supported by pronounced savouriness and a pleasant freshness, with a long-lasting finish. Thanks to its structure, it pairs ideally with shellfish, oysters, cheeses and baked fish dishes.
Where it comes from
This white wine originates from the vineyards of Suvereto, in the province of Livorno, in the heart of the Maremma. The soils, located about one hundred metres above sea level, have a balanced composition of clay, sand and silt. The vines are trained using the Guyot system, with a planting density aimed at enhancing the quality of the grapes. The proximity to the coast ensures constant sea breezes and an ideal microclimate, elements that give the wine its marked freshness and the aromatic imprint typical of the coastal area.
How it is produced
In the winery, production begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration, an essential technique for extracting the finest aromatic components. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at strictly controlled temperatures. Maturation continues in the same containers for nine months, during which periodic bâtonnage is carried out to give depth and structure. Before being released onto the market, the wine undergoes a final ageing of at least nine months, which is fundamental for stabilising and balancing its richness of flavour.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1953 in Suvereto, the Gualdo del Re estate passionately manages 27 hectares of vineyards on soils composed of clay, sand and silt at an altitude of 100 metres. Benefiting from the expertise of oenologist Barbara Tamburini, the winery expresses the authentic character of the Livorno area through its Vermentino Toscana IGT. The grapes, sourced from Guyot-trained vines, are enhanced by careful bottle ageing for at least 9 months before release, offering an elegant white wine, exceptionally rich and with unforgettable persistence.

The transition occurred whilst continuing along the path of excellence undertaken by Barbara Tamburini who, in the meantime, has become one of the most famous and recognised enologists in Italy and abroad.
The new business development program includes the restoration of some vineyards and the purchase of new plots. The recently acquired plots would be planted with massal selections of traditional varieties that resulted from extensive studies and analysis.
At the same time, modernization was organized for Il Ristorante, Il Casale and, especially, the Cellar, whose technical unit would be employed for a wider vineyard rationalization. Read more
