Description

What kind of wine it is

Portarispetto is an organic white wine from Fontefico that expresses a truly authentic sense of place. Made from Trebbiano d’Abruzzo grapes, it displays a bright colour and delicate herbal notes reminiscent of green pepper. On the palate, it harmoniously combines hints of white fruit with a pronounced briny savouriness, offering a taut and balanced sip. Its deep minerality enhances pairings with shellfish, fried fish, pasta dishes and cheeses, finishing with a persistent aftertaste.

Where it comes from

The Trebbiano vines grow in Abruzzo along the Costa dei Trabocchi, refreshed by the Adriatic Sea breeze. The vineyard enjoys a favourable eastern exposure at one hundred and twenty metres above sea level, rooted in soils of iron, sand and clay that impart a distinctive mineral character. Fontefico maintains low yields to maximise the aromatic concentration of the grapes. The synergy between the maritime microclimate and this unique soil ensures the wine’s high quality and excellent ageing potential.

How it is produced

Production takes place through single-vineyard vinification under organic farming practices, with minimal intervention in the winery. After harvesting, fermentation lasts for thirty-two days. The wine then rests for ten months in steel tanks, preserving its varietal freshness, and completes its maturation with three months in bottle. The process concludes with estate bottling, resulting in a wine with a clear, fresh profile and great aromatic persistence.

History and Curiosities

The Fontefico Portarispetto 2024 combines tradition and the charm of the Costa dei Trabocchi, celebrating the Trebbiano d’Abruzzo DOC Superiore. The winery chooses to “show respect” to the organic vineyards by forgoing high yields. From the east-facing rows on ferrous, sandy and clay soils caressed by the sea breeze, a wine with a distinct saline minerality is born. With low-intervention vinification, fresh herbaceous notes blend with white fruit, resulting in a long and balanced finish.
