Description

What kind of wine is it

Pietracalda Fiano di Avellino Riserva, produced by Feudi di San Gregorio, is a still white wine with Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin from Campania, expressing the authentic soul of the Fiano grape variety, vinified and matured in steel. In the glass, it reveals a profile defined by notes of fresh chamomile flowers, just-picked fruit and candied citron. On the palate, it is dry, with a significant structure balanced by lively freshness and deep minerality. Its innate roundness makes it the ideal companion for structured seafood dishes, grilled shellfish, vegetarian risottos and white meats.

Where does it come from

This wine originates in the heart of Campania, in the Irpinia area, an Apennine territory historically suited to viticulture. The vineyards of Sorbo Serpico benefit from a unique microclimate, characterised by frequent breezes, regular rainfall and harsh winters that preserve the freshness of the grapes. Its strength lies in the clay-rich soils, ideal for retaining water reserves during the hottest summers. This particular geological composition keeps the acidity of the bunches intact, giving the sip its typical mineral savouriness.

How is it produced

The harvest takes place in mid-September. Alcoholic fermentation occurs in steel tanks at a controlled temperature, using only indigenous yeasts to enhance the identity of the terroir. Maturation continues for a long period in steel in contact with its fine lees, accompanied by repeated bâtonnage. This delicate operation resuspends the sediments, greatly enriching the texture and complexity of the sip. This is followed by an essential rest in the bottle which stabilises the wine, giving it a long and balanced finish.

History and Curiosities

Born in the heart of Irpinia, Pietracalda elevates the millennia-old winemaking tradition of the Campanian Apennines through the prestigious Selezioni line, dedicated to fine dining. This wine is made exclusively from Fiano grapes, a noble variety introduced to Italy by the ancient Greeks and now protected by the strict Fiano di Avellino DOCG certification. The allure of this label is enhanced by the elegant bottle designed by Massimo Vignelli, while its oenological excellence is confirmed by the extraordinary 93 points awarded by Robert Parker and Luca Maroni.
