Description
What kind of wine it is
Campanaro is an elegant still white wine from Campania, crafted by Feudi di San Gregorio. The result of a skilful blend of Fiano and Greco grapes, this wine best expresses the identity of Fiano di Avellino. In the glass, it displays an intense, bright straw yellow colour, heralding a dry and concentrated aromatic profile, while on the palate it offers a silky texture and soft acidity, balanced by a pronounced mineral character. The extended ageing gives it a well-defined structure, ensuring an extremely persistent finish.
Where it comes from
This white originates in the heart of Irpinia, specifically in the municipality of Sorbo Serpico. The grapes come exclusively from the Campanaro cru, a highly renowned vineyard that gives the wine its name. The area is characterised by volcanic soils rich in minerals, which are reflected in the glass with a deep savouriness. The significant temperature variation between day and night encourages the development of lively acidity, keeping the sip fresh and taut despite the notable fruit concentration.
How it is produced
The vinification of Fiano and Greco grapes involves fermentation and subsequent ageing in barrels for about 8-10 months.
History and Curiosities
Il Campanaro represents the flagship white cuvée of Feudi di San Gregorio, a wine produced in Irpinia exclusively from the grapes of the prestigious cru of the same name. This extraordinary expression of the region stands out as the only white wine from the winery to undergo maturation in barrique and tonneau for 8-10 months. The 2023 vintage harmoniously blends Fiano and Greco grapes, enhancing the distinctive character of the volcanic soils rich in minerals. This skilful ageing technique gives rise to an elegant Fiano di Avellino DOCG, a true symbol of Irpinia.
