Description

Wine type

Egly-Ouriet's Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut is an elegant and structured wine. Produced in Champagne through a carefully selected blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this Extra Brut Traditional Method clearly expresses the winery's identity. The tasting reveals a fresh and decisive profile, characterised by a full body that evolves into a persistent mineral finish. On the nose and palate, hints of yellow-fleshed fruit, sweet spices and a fine savouriness blend coherently, the result of meticulous cellar work.

Provenance

This wine originates from the Ambonnay territory, an area of absolute importance within the Champagne region. The old vines take root in deep chalky soils, capable of ensuring excellent water drainage and reflecting sunlight optimally. This specific geological composition of the terroir gives the wine a distinct savoury and mineral character, enriched by a characteristic and slight pungent note of black pepper. The pedoclimatic conditions of the area are directly reflected in the great structure and natural energy that define the glass.

How it is produced

The production process follows the rigorous rules of the Traditional Method, starting with a first fermentation triggered exclusively by indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, the wine undergoes a slow and controlled maturation within oak barrels, which enriches its aromatic profile. The second fermentation in the bottle is followed by a long ageing of ninety-six months on the lees, a fundamental step to amplify the complexity and depth of flavour. The total absence of filtration before bottling allows the structure to be preserved intact and encourages remarkable longevity.

History and interesting facts

The excellence of the glorious Egly-Ouriet winery takes shape thanks to the rigorous work of an authentic Recoltant Manipulant, who vinifies only estate-grown grapes. This priceless label originates from old vines rooted in the chalky soils of Ambonnay. A fascinating feature lies in its exceptional longevity: the elegant structure of this vintage is destined to evolve with pure harmony for well over twenty-five years. The absence of filtration preserves its natural integrity, allowing this wine to earn a prestigious score of 96 points from Vinous.

A Champagne that represents its terroir: the vine and soil are found throughout this wine, thanks to old vines, a few winemaker's secrets and modern technology. Egly-Ouriet produces champagne only with grapes from its 11.5 hectares company's vineyards, the most important of which are in Ambonnay, the home of Pinot Noir, the others in Bouzy, Verzenay and Vrigny. Quality begins on this particular soil, made up of layers of chalk that reflect the sun's rays and release heat to the vines at night, allowing excess water to be absorbed and giving the grapes a particularly mineral taste.
