Description
What kind of wine it is
Eduardo Torres Acosta Arenaria Contrada is a still red wine that expresses the authentic soul of the Sicilian lands. Produced by Eduardo Torres Acosta, this wine enhances the Nerello Mascalese grape variety through a deep flavour profile with a pleasant crispness. On the palate, it reveals a decisive structure, accompanied by a vibrant freshness that balances the intensity of each sip. Its taut and elegant nature makes it an ideal companion to enhance meat-based dishes, succulent pork roasts and boards of mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Castiglione di Sicilia, on the heights of the northern slopes of the Etna area, at around seven hundred metres above sea level. The vineyards, trained as bush vines and on trellises, preserve historic vines that reach up to seventy years of age. This area, historically known as Terre Bianche, is distinguished by a sandstone soil of submarine sedimentary origin, enriched with light clay and quartz. The absence of volcanic material, combined with the northern exposure, gives the grapes unique soil and climate characteristics. These environmental conditions favour a taut flavour profile and a clear progression, enhancing the depth of each sip and the unique identity of the landscape.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place in the first ten days of October, carefully selecting the bunches at the right stage of ripeness. In the winery, spontaneous fermentation occurs in vats thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. This is followed by a fifteen-day maceration on the skins, carried out without any temperature control to preserve the aromatic and structural integrity of the fruit. The process concludes with an eleven-month ageing period that combines the use of barrels and concrete tanks. This technical choice allows the delicate evolution guaranteed by wood to be combined with the stability of the inert container, defining the final balance and elegance of the wine.
History and Curiosities
Born from the passion of Eduardo Torres Acosta, Arenaria Contrada 2022 enhances the authenticity of Nerello Mascalese. The grapes come from 70-year-old vines located in Castiglione di Sicilia, cultivated at an altitude of 700 metres. The non-volcanic soils of sandstone and quartz from the historic Terre Bianche give the wine a crisp sip and a deep structure. Awarded 94 points by Vinous, this red, aged in tonneaux and cement, perfectly reflects the pure soul of an exceptional Sicilian terroir.

In 2012, he participated in the grape harvest at Arianna Occhipinti's, and a year later he worked as an oenologist at the Passopisciaro winery, attracted by the volcanic territory. In 2014, he began his work to restore the leased vineyards on Etna's northern slope. In the same year he bottled his first vintage.
Today we work 4.7 ha divided into 9 vineyards at different heights and districts. We continue to recover old vineyards that are 90% cultivated with the traditional alberello system. Today the company believes in the importance of continuous comparison and sharing with other producers, in the knowledge of other territories and other varieties. This is how we try to interpret a territory and make it known within a glass. Read more
