Description

What kind of wine is it

Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes from Domaine de la Vougeraie is a still red wine from Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, produced according to organic and biodynamic farming principles. Made from Pinot Noir grapes, it expresses a style that is both structured and refined. The palate is characterised by a silky texture and fine tannins, capable of supporting long ageing. The identity of the cru emerges with pinpoint precision, ensuring a deep and complex aromatic persistence.

Where does it come from

This wine originates from the Les Damodes plot, located at the northern border of Nuits-Saint-Georges, directly adjoining Vosne-Romanée. Viticulture here involves very low yields and the use of horses for working the soil. The ground alternates between clay and silt on a base of fine gravel, resting atop blocks of pink marble. This complex geological structure provides the vines with an ideal balance, giving the palate a clear mineral trace and a defined red fruit that stands out for its purity.

How is it produced

Vinification takes place in wooden vats, partially employing the whole cluster technique, which is essential for preserving freshness and the original aromatic identity. Ageing continues in French oak barrels, a stage that harmoniously integrates the body’s structure without overpowering the natural floral notes and hints of wild berries. The production process concludes with a light filtration and no fining, offering a rounded palate, ideal when paired with game, red meats and flavourful cheeses.

History and Curiosities

The Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes 2023 from Domaine de la Vougeraie is a rare gem produced in only 5,590 bottles, born from a soil of Premeaux pink marble on the border with Vosne-Romanée. This prestigious Pinot Noir, strictly organic and biodynamic, delights the most discerning palates and enhances the selections of the finest Michelin three-starred restaurants. Awarded with absolute excellence and 97 points by Robert Parker, it reveals a noble and structured profile, with elegant aromas destined to evolve magnificently over the long term.
