Description
What kind of wine it is
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva from Cupano enhances the authenticity of Sangiovese. In the glass, it displays a bright ruby red colour tending towards garnet, revealing an intense aromatic profile. There is an interplay of dried red flowers, small red fruits, balsamic herbs, woodland notes and sweet spices. On the palate, it is energetic and structured, with a savouriness that prolongs its pleasant persistence. It pairs ideally with game dishes, mature cheeses and roasts, offering its best when served at a temperature between 18 and 20°C with about an hour of decanting.
Where it comes from
This wine is born in Tuscany, in the Montalcino area at Podere Centine. The Cupano winery cultivates its vineyards following the principles of biodynamics, without any chemical intervention on the soils. This results in a limited production, strongly linked to the local identity. Careful agronomic work encourages a pronounced aromatic intensity in the Sangiovese grapes, giving the structure a solid capacity for evolution over time.
How it is produced
Production is based on strict certified organic farming. Oenologist Lionel Cousin oversees the processes, enhancing the natural quality of the grapes to preserve their freshness and vigour. The ageing process in the cellar imparts the distinctive and profound character of the Riserva, ensuring this red wine has remarkable ageing potential. Thanks to this care, the wine can evolve serenely for a period of fifteen to twenty-five years, maintaining its structural harmony intact.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1996 at Podere Centine, the Cupano winery produces a Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva resulting from strict organic and biodynamic farming. Overseen by oenologist Lionel Cousin and made from just four hectares of vineyard, this pure Sangiovese is a rare gem produced in only 10,000 bottles a year. The sip, energetic and structured, stands out for its long fruity persistence, praised by publications such as Vinous and Decanter. Capable of evolving in the cellar for up to 25 years, this elegant wine pairs ideally with game and roasts.

Lionel and Ornella bought Centine in 1994. That land - located south-west of Montalcino, close to the medieval town of Camigliano - had been left uncoltivated for more than 40 years. The soil they found was extremely pure, never touched by chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides or any other form of industrial agriculture.
Thus, in 1997, Ornella and Lionel chose to plant 3.4 hectares of vineyard around the hill, facing south, certified organic since the beginning: 2.4 hectares of Sangiovese for Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, 0.6 Cabernet Sauvignon and 0.4 Merlot. Carlo Ferrini helped us to select the land for the vines and the vine-stocks, the growth system and the height of the plants. François Bouchet initiated us to biodynamic, the simple and efficient biodynamic of the old gentleman farmer he was. In 2013 we planted three more hectares of vineyard: Sangiovese (2ha), Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot. Read more
