Description

Still red Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, 16% ABV, produced by Costa Arente. Blend: 50% Corvina, 20% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella, 2019 vintage, 0.75L bottle. An Amarone born in the heart of the Valpantena, from carefully dried grapes to enhance the complexity and richness of the terroir. The company, Genagricola's latest acquisition, boasts 17 hectares of vineyards where the grapes are grown using the Veronese pergola method. On the nose, the complex and ample bouquet combines fruity notes of morello cherry with hints of tobacco, spice, and licorice. A deep red color with garnet edges. On the palate, it immediately displays a great structure, with hints of red berry and morello cherry overlapping with notes of vanilla. Dry, with good acidity and elegant tannins, it is supported by a good alcohol content. It has a long finish on the palate.

Costa Arente was the last acquisition of Genagricola in the wine sector, and in 2015 the estate became part of the famous group. This estate is made of 35 hectares, 17 of which are vineyards, in the heart of Valpantena (Verona), included in the Valpolicella region, at an altitude between 250 and 350 meters, where the classic Veronese pergola has its roots in a marly soil, originated from rocks rich in limestone.

Thanks to favourable exposure, a particular microclimate and a steep slope, the typical varieties of Valpolicella area are grown: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta grapes. This terroir gives the grapes a specific elegance in scents, great minerality and excellent ageing capacity.

An estate of excellence for high-quality production, where the balance between tradition and latest generation techniques and the daily work of the agronomist Giovanni Casati has brought the wines produced to levels of excellence in a short time. This year the Amarone 2015 is positioned on the top step of the podium, achieving an exceptional result in so few years of production.

Harvest By hand, between the end of September and the beginning of October. The grapes are then left to dry acquiring greater concentration and a rich aromatic profile. After 100 days, the grapes, depending on the variety, have lost from 30% to 35% of their weight and are ready for vinification.
Wine making The grapes are sorted before being destemmed, ensuring that only the best ones are selected to become part of Amarone. This is followed by crushing and vinification in steel vats at a controlled temperature: slow maceration for 30 days, 12 of which cold, with 3 punching-downs per day to facilitate the extraction of polyphenols, such as tannins and anthocyanins, present in the grape skins.
