Description

What kind of wine it is

Whispering Angel Rosé from Château d’Esclans is a still wine that gracefully expresses the elegance of the Côtes de Provence. This harmonious blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle, Syrah and Carignan grapes offers a clear and refined aromatic profile. In the glass, it displays a bright pale pink hue, releasing aromas of white peach, raspberry and delicate floral notes. Vinified and matured in stainless steel, on the palate it is dry and silky, with a smooth drinkability that culminates in a persistent citrusy finish and a distinct mineral savouriness.

Where it comes from

This Provençal rosé originates in the Var department, a short distance from the Mediterranean coast. The estate’s vineyards benefit from a privileged microclimate, where intense sunlight and constant sea breezes encourage the slow ripening of the grapes. The vines, including old Grenache stocks, sink their roots into limestone and clay soils. This particular terroir gives the wine a pronounced aromatic precision and a clear mineral character, enhancing its natural finesse.

How it is produced

Harvesting takes place between night and the early hours of dawn to preserve the freshness of the fruit and protect it from the heat. After a rigorous optical selection, the grapes undergo a gentle pressing at low temperatures and cold maceration to prevent oxidation. Fermentation and subsequent maturation take place exclusively in stainless steel tanks, with no use of barrels. The technique of fortnightly bâtonnage enriches the wine’s rounded texture, while maintaining the purity of the fruit.

History and Curiosities

The 20th Vintage Limited Edition of Whispering Angel Rosé 2025 celebrates Château d’Esclans, the oldest winery in the region, renowned for its Tuscan style. Located a short distance from the Mediterranean coast, the estate has led the rosé renaissance thanks to Sacha Lichine. The Côtes de Provence AOC grapes are harvested at dawn to preserve their freshness, resulting in a wine acclaimed by the international critics.

Chateau d’Esclans is located on an exceptional site, on elevated land near the Gorges de Pennafort, twenty five kilometers northwest of the ancient Roman city of Frejus on the Mediterranean coast. The first traces of the chateau’s site date back to Gaullist times during which its location served as a lookout point to spot intruders coming by boat into the Gulf of Frejus.

The chateau’s cellar structure or foundation (known today as the oldest in the region) housed an original Chateau that was given by the Comte de Provence to Gérard De Villeneuve, in 1201. The current chateau, inspired by Tuscan Villa design, was built during the mid 19th century. Château d’Esclans lies in the center of the Department of the Var, where the majority of Provence AOC rosé is produced.
