Description
What type of wine it is
The Chianti Classico Riserva from Castello di Radda is an elegant organic Tuscan red wine, made from Sangiovese grapes and matured in oak barrels. Characterised by a ruby hue with slight garnet reflections, this wine expresses intense aromas of forest fruits on the nose, enriched by notes of spice and vanilla. On the palate, it reveals a complex and balanced structure, supported by a distinct mineral freshness that leads towards a long, savoury finish. Its deep texture and persistence make it ideal for enhancing red meats, game, roasts, and mature hard cheeses.
Where it comes from
This expression of Chianti Classico originates in the hillside vineyards located in the municipality of Radda in Chianti, at an altitude between 350 and 400 metres above sea level. The south-east and south-west exposure of the rows ensures optimal ripening and a marked aromatic concentration for the grapes. The vines grow on clay-limestone soils characterised by a strong presence of stony skeleton. This specific geological composition of the Sienese territory gives the wine a clear savoury character, defining its elegance and overall balance.
How it is produced
The process begins in October with manual harvesting and a careful selection of the bunches. Vinification involves temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, with maceration on the skins for three or four weeks to optimise extraction. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation is completed in wood to enrich the organoleptic profile. The wine then matures in French and Slavonian oak barrels for approximately twenty months, defining its character through slow rackings. Finally, suitable bottle ageing promotes the harmonisation of the structure.
History and curiosities
In the heart of the Sienese territory, Castello di Radda celebrates Tuscan tradition by producing an excellent Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva. Under the guidance of oenologist Maurizio Castelli, the winery enhances Sangiovese through rigorous organic practices. Its elegance stems from a slow maturation of twenty months in oak, followed by long refinement in the bottle. Presented in a classic Bordeaux bottle sealed with natural cork, this red boasts 93 James Suckling points, confirming itself as a symbol of excellence and artisanal quality.

The Beretta family bought the estate in 2003 to increase their interest in the wine-growing sector. They are already active with the family's historic company "Lo Sparviere", which produces the precious Franciacorta sparkling wines. The project took shape with the recovery, in qualitative terms, of the 45 hectares under vine and the construction of an extensive wine cellar built according to the design of architect Spartaco Mori.
