Description

What kind of wine it is

Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto is an intense Tuscan red that enhances the power of Sangiovese. The ruby glass with garnet highlights anticipates aromas of dark fruits, chocolate and a mineral vein of graphite. On the palate, the attack is immense and dense; the structure is supported by a broad and polished tannin, with an extremely long finish. Excellent as a meditation wine, it pairs perfectly with braised meats, game and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This Brunello di Montalcino originates from the Cerretalto vineyard, in the Sienese countryside. The Casanova di Neri winery values vines that produce small, loose bunches. This natural formation, combined with the characteristics of the soil, gives the wine a marked identity. The Tuscan climate ensures the ideal ripening of the fruit, allowing for a drink with clear aromatic definition and great ageing potential.

How it is produced

After manual harvesting, a rigorous selection of the bunches ensures the use of intact berries. Spontaneous fermentation and maceration take place in truncated conical wooden vats at a controlled temperature for about a month, with frequent punch-downs. Careful maturation continues for thirty-six months in oak barrels, finishing with a long bottle ageing to consolidate the structure and overall balance.

History and Curiosities

Born from the passion that has driven the Neri family since 1971, the iconic Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Cerretalto 2019 expresses the true vocation of the region. Produced with 100% Sangiovese grapes meticulously hand-selected, this majestic red is created in truncated conical wooden vats through spontaneous fermentation. The prestigious 36-month ageing in cask and 24 months in bottle bestows a broad, sensual and profound sip with polished tannins: a masterpiece of elegance awarded the Cinque Grappoli Bibenda.

Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri to embark on a great adventure. Passionate about wine, Neri had long dreamed of making a great Italian red, and although the long-established wine zone of Chianti Classico was just on his doorstep, it was remote Montalcino and its austere Sangiovese wines that fascinated him. In May 1971, he bought Podere Casanova, changed its name to Casanova di Neri, and in consultation with some of Tuscany’s leading winemakers, immediately began work to restore the estate’s existing Sangiovese vines and plant new ones. In 1991 Giovanni Neri dies. His son Giacomo takes over the running of the winery.

In 2017 Casanova di Neri expands into hospitality with the inauguration of the Relais, a charming ten-room restored farmhouse amidst the vineyards, just steps from the winery. In the same year, Gianlorenzo Neri enters the family business alongside his father Giacomo and brother Giovanni.
