Description

What kind of wine it is

Grottaia Rosso by Caccia al Piano is a still red wine produced in Tuscany, the result of a carefully crafted blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. With a bright ruby red colour, it offers a fresh and inviting bouquet, characterised by delicate notes of small red fruits and violet. On the palate, it reveals a pleasant drinkability, supported by a fine tannic structure that provides balance and harmony. The ageing process, carried out exclusively in stainless steel, enhances its fruity component, delivering a satisfying and straightforward sip that faithfully reflects its territory of origin.

Where it comes from

This red wine originates from the vineyards of Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of the Bolgheri area. The estate enjoys a magnificent sea view, a natural element that positively influences the local microclimate and imparts a marked freshness to the grapes. Under the guidance of oenologist Arturo Ziliani, the vines thrive in ideal soil and climate conditions, fully expressing the vocation of the area. The connection with this stretch of the Tuscan coast defines the identity and dynamic style of this wine.

How it is produced

Production begins with a meticulous manual harvest, aimed at preserving the integrity of the bunches. The different varieties are picked and processed separately. In the winery, after destemming, maceration and alcoholic fermentation take place in stainless steel vats at controlled temperature for about two weeks. Following racking and malolactic fermentation, the wine matures exclusively in steel, a technical choice aimed at maintaining maximum aromatic clarity and the natural fragrance of the fruit.

At the beginning of the 2000s, Franco Ziliani, owner of Guido Berlucchi and pioneer of the birth of the Classic Method in Franciacorta in the 1960s, decided to bet on an emerging terroir such as Bolgheri in Tuscany to make excellent red wines.

This idea, which culminated with purchasing the Caccia al Piano estate in 2003, came across after visiting the San Biagio vineyard. This marvellous area enjoys a privileged position in the Bolgheri area and a fascinating view of the sea.

Since the beginning, Franco Ziliani's work was driven by the desire to patiently understand the terroir of Bolgheri, respecting what has already been done by the great protagonists who have made the wine of these lands famous. Today, the company is carried on by his children Cristina, Arturo and Paolo.

The Caccia al Piano estate is located in Castagneto Carducci in the town of Bolgheri and was created from the renovation of an ancient hunting estate owned by the noble Della Gherardesca family, dating back to 1868. Thanks to careful redevelopment work in full respect of the surrounding land, the farmhouse has been enlarged and transformed into the current headquarters of the winery.
