Description

What kind of wine it is

The Merlot from Ca’ del Bosco is a still red wine characterised by an intense, deep garnet colour. On the nose, it reveals enveloping aromas of ripe red fruit, in a natural combination of complexity and finesse. On the palate, a pleasant freshness emerges, where harmony decisively prevails over power. Made from Merlot grapes, it expresses perfectly balanced tannins, offering an elegant, smooth and persistent sip. Ideal paired with flavourful meat dishes and mature cheeses, it delivers a structured and profound pleasure.

Where it comes from

This red originates in Erbusco, in the heart of Franciacorta, Lombardy, and belongs to the Sebino denomination. It is produced by Ca’ del Bosco, a winery founded in the mid-1960s and now an absolute benchmark for the region. The soils of Brescia give the Merlot grapes a distinctly aromatic character that is immediately recognisable from the very first sip. The geographical identity of the area ensures a rigorous balance of flavour and a consistently defined structure, capable of enhancing the climatic peculiarities and richness of the local soils.

How it is produced

After a rigorous manual selection in the vineyard, the bunches are destemmed and crushed, with the musts transferred by gravity. The temperature-controlled fermentation lasts eleven days and is followed by a post-fermentation maceration, for a total cycle of twenty-five days. After racking, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in small oak barrels, mostly new. A careful ten-month maturation helps to soften the tannic texture and define the aromatic profile in perfect overall harmony.

History and Curiosities

Born in the renowned territory of Erbusco, the Sebino IGT from Ca’ del Bosco embodies the highest expression of Franciacorta elegance. Founded in the 1960s by Annamaria Clementi, the historic winery presents this superb 2015 vintage Merlot in purity, the result of a meticulous manual selection of the grape bunches. The skilful vinification is completed with a noble ageing of ten months in small oak barrels, which gives this still red wine extraordinary freshness, perfectly balanced tannins and a profound harmony.

Ca' del Bosco is the mainstay of the Franciacorta terroir. The Ca' del Bosco wineries were founded in the mid-1960s by Annamaria Clementi Zanella, who bought a modest house of the same name in Erbusco, which was endowed with vineyards and woods. However, her son, Maurizio Zanella, started wine production, enhancing the terroir's characteristics and transforming that small house into one of Italy's most productive wineries. In fact, these cellars are distinguished for producing the famousCa' del Bosco sparkling wine, which is characterised by its elegant yet strong personality given by intense, juicy aromas and fullness of flavour. Today Ca' del Bosco is a well-established business, producing numerous labels, including still wines, both red and white, and Franciacorta for which Xtrawine has reserved a place of honour. You can choose from bottles of the best vintages from 2008 with an ageing capacity of between 15 and 25 years that will bring out the best in all your dishes: from pasta to fish and shellfish to dessert, the fruity notes will envelop your palate with every sip.
