Description

What kind of wine it is

Lugana I Frati by Ca’ dei Frati is a still white wine that precisely expresses the character of the Lombardy region. Made from Turbiana grapes, this wine embodies the essence of the Lugana denomination, offering a Mediterranean, dry and balanced style. Visually, it displays a bright straw yellow hue with delicate greenish highlights. The bouquet offers citrus notes, green apple, pear and a subtle hint of white flowers, enriched by balsamic nuances. On the palate, it is fruity and pleasantly fresh, ideal for pairing with fish dishes, seafood and fresh cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes for this wine come from vineyards located in Sirmione, in the Brescia area of Lake Garda. The vines grow on calcareous-clay soils rich in minerals, which give the wine a pronounced savouriness and clear minerality. The local microclimate benefits from the lake’s refreshing breezes, which are essential for preserving the aromatic fragrance of the grapes. Ca’ dei Frati makes the most of these pedoclimatic conditions to enhance the most authentic and vibrant expression of the cultivated variety.

How it is produced

The production process involves fermentation in stainless steel, designed to protect the integrity of the fruit and the clarity of the aromas. To maintain the natural acidity, malolactic fermentation is not carried out. Afterwards, the wine matures on the fine lees for a minimum of six months, a stage that gives greater structural definition to the palate. This is followed by a brief final ageing of two months. Over time, the linear and elegant profile develops further complexity, enriched with iodised nuances, hints of spices and apricot.

History and Curiosities

A symbol of the winery since 1939, Lugana DOC I Frati is a refined white wine that expresses the soul of Lake Garda. Made exclusively from Turbiana grapes, this wine ferments in steel to preserve a lively freshness, maturing for six months on fine lees and a further two months in the bottle. The bouquet offers delicate notes of white flowers and apricot, while on the palate it stands out for its pronounced savouriness and subtle minerality. Excellent enjoyed young, it is also capable of evolving over time, gaining spicy nuances. The 0.375 L format is ideal for intimate fish-based dinners.

The company Ca' dei Frati has been known since 1782 as evidenced by a document that refers to 'a house with a cellar located in Lugana in the tener of Sirmione called the place of the Friars'.

It was in 1939 when Felice Dal Cero, son of Domenico, already a winemaker in Montecchia Crosara in Verona, moved in that house, Lugana of Sirmione, sensing immediately the wine-growing area.
After 30 years of work in the vineyard and winery in 1969, his son Peter participated in the creation of Doc started to bottle its first Lugana Casa dei Frati label.

Today, with his wife Santa Rosa cultural heritage has been passed on to children Igino, Gian Franco and Anna Maria who run the company with the same passion and determination.

Mutual respect, the union of the family, defined roles and the link to their territory on the shores of Lake Garda, represent the true strength of the Dal Cero family

Ca'dei Frati treasures of the past and looks to the future through a research and development of what was built in 70 years of wines.
