Description

What kind of wine is it

Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat “Les Quarts” is a biodynamic white wine produced in Burgundy, in the renowned Mâconnais area. A pure expression of Chardonnay, it displays a straw yellow colour with golden highlights. The aromatic profile offers fruity and floral notes, intertwined with lively citrus hints. On the palate, it is fresh, balanced and structured, with remarkable complexity that leads to a persistent, mineral finish. It is a harmonious wine, capable of evolving beautifully over time.

Where does it come from

The grapes come from old vines located in the highest and stoniest part of the Les Quarts climat. The rows benefit from excellent east and south-east exposure, with roots delving into a distinctive clay-limestone soil enriched with a high concentration of red iron oxide and siliceous crystals. This complex geological matrix imparts a deep mineral character to the grapes, clearly defining the identity and longevity typical of Pouilly-Vinzelles.

How is it produced

The winemaking expertise of Bret Brothers is reflected in the meticulous manual harvest, followed by gentle whole-bunch pressing. Vinification and subsequent ageing take place exclusively in oak barrels for eleven months, a process that enhances the wine’s structure while preserving the clarity of the fruit. Afterwards, the wine rests for a further six months in tank to encourage natural settling. This careful process ensures perfect balance on the palate, making it ideal for accompanying delicate dishes with great elegance.

History and Curiosities

  • Start up year: 2001
  • Bottles produced: 50.000
  • Hectares: 8
We set up Bret Brothers in early August 2001 with the aim of producing very fine terroir wines, mainly from the Mâcon wine-producing region in Southern Burgundy.

We are currently producing around 50,000 bottles in 14 different cuvées, from a total of around 8 ha. Since the 2013 vintage, we have also been expanding our range with the fine wines from the Beaujolais region (Brouilly, Lantignié, Chénas and Juliénas), magical terroirs too long overlooked.
