Description

What kind of wine it is

Bosco del Merlo Campo Camino Merlot Riserva is a still red wine that elegantly expresses the characteristics of Merlot. It displays an intense red colour enriched with purple hues. The bouquet is broad and complex, defined by plum notes, cherry and small wild berries, complemented by hints of vanilla and black pepper. On the palate, it is velvety and full-bodied, offering a dry and harmonious sip supported by a solid structure. It is the ideal companion for braised red meats, mature cheeses, flavourful vegetarian dishes and the traditional Friulian frico.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Veneto, at the heart of the Venezia denomination area. The vineyards of Bosco del Merlo stretch along the route of ancient Roman consular roads and are managed according to the principles of sustainable viticulture. The name on the label refers to the vineyard of origin and pays homage to the chimney of an old kiln that characterises the surrounding landscape. Thanks to careful soil zoning, the winery is able to enhance the natural vocation of the land, offering a vegan-certified production with a strong territorial connection.

How it is produced

The winemaking process involves a prolonged maceration of the grapes for over twenty days, which is essential for extracting colour and the richness of phenolic compounds. The subsequent malolactic fermentation imparts roundness, perfectly integrating the fruity aromas. Ageing continues for twelve months in large oak barrels, which lend elegance to the tannic texture while preserving the identity of the grape variety. Finally, a four-month rest allows the structured profile to consolidate, bringing the wine's balance to completion before tasting.

History and Curiosities

The name of this elegant Merlot Riserva refers to the tall chimney of an old brick kiln. Born along the ancient Roman consular roads, the wine embodies the philosophy of Bosco del Merlo, combining tradition with cutting-edge technology. With modern zoning techniques and sustainable viticulture, the winery reduces its environmental impact. The result is an excellent organic and vegan product, deeply connected to its territory.

The name "Bosco del Merlo" is derived from local topographical maps which refer to the oak forests that once covered the area. The vineyards of Bosco del Merlo are situated between the ancient Roman consular roads of Via Annia and Via Postumia, dating back to the early centuries after Christ.

The Bosco del Merlo estate winery started up in 1977 in Annone Veneto, founded by siblings Carlo, Lucia and Roberto Paladin. Thanks to a profitable collaboration with the Istituto Sperimentale per la Viticoltura di Conegliano, a careful and modern zoning technique was immediately implemented in order to get the best out of the terroir, working the vineyard piece by piece. In the nineties, in the small town of Lison di Portogruaro, the cradle of viticulture in this wine-making region, a further 50 hectares of land was acquired, which therefore doubled capacity, increasing it to around 100 hectares in total.

Over the course of the years Bosco del Merlo has benefited from the advice of famous oenologists and experts from the Faculties of Oenology and Agriculture in Padua and Milan, such as Franco Bernabei and Leonardo Valenti, in its quest to find the most forward-thinking solutions for achieving optimal quality with the lowest environmental impact.
