Description

What kind of wine it is

The Bereche Champagne AY Grand Cru Extra Brut is a broad and structured wine. Crafted using the Traditional Method, this blend combines Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. In the glass, it appears bright, with golden highlights and a fine perlage. The bouquet is rich, with notes of red fruits integrated with a pronounced chalky component. On the palate, it offers a powerful and dry sip, with no residual sugars, finishing with elegant spicy nuances.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the Champagne region, in the Grande Vallée de la Marne. The grapes come from the commune of Aÿ, classified as Grand Cru, from the Brise Pot and Froide Terre parcels. The forty-year-old vines sink their roots into poor soil, with a cultivable layer of only thirty centimetres resting on the characteristic Campanian chalk. This geological matrix enhances the Champagne, encouraging low yields and imparting a taut and distinct minerality.

How it is produced

Vinification requires meticulous timing. The slow fermentation takes place in barrels, increasing aromatic complexity and maintaining a dry style. The subsequent prise de mousse according to the Traditional Method involves a long ageing on the lees for seventy-eight months. This period of rest in the cellar is fundamental to achieving the elegant fineness of the perlage and a profound evolution of the aromatic bouquet.

History and Curiosities

The historic Maison Bérèche, founded in 1847, celebrates its tradition with this 2017 Vintage, a prestigious Extra Brut produced in only 2,696 bottles. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes come from forty-year-old vines rooted in the chalky soils of Aÿ. The meticulous slow fermentation in barrique and the long ageing of 78 months on the lees give this Champagne an exceptional structure. Free from residual sugars and awarded 93 points by Vinous, this wine represents a true masterpiece of pure elegance.

The 5th generation has been in place since 2004. The last 10 years have been dedicated to several key factors: the transmission of expertise, the quality of work and the continuity of the style of the House. We respect our soil and our vineyards to the highest point. We want to hand them down intact for future generations. We pay attention to every detail of our work in order to excel in precision, tradition and respect for life to serve our wines.

Every action has been adequately thought out. Of course our land is plowed and we also use weed control to limit disease. This vegetation cover avoids herbicides, insecticides and anti-rots. Everything begins with the soil. The fertilization is organic. We feed wildlife which in turn feeds flora and thus the soil is working. As a result the House Bérêche has one of the lowest treatment frequency index in the Champagne region. It is also among the first to be certified High Environmental Quality (level 3).
