Description

What kind of wine it is

Alois Lageder's Lagrein Rosé elegantly interprets Lagrein, a historic red grape variety from South Tyrol. With a brilliant cherry red colour and ruby highlights, it releases clear aromas of wild strawberry, cherry and rose, accompanied by delicate mineral notes. On the palate, it reveals a medium-bodied structure and is extremely juicy. The sip is dry and smooth, supported by excellent acidity that leads to a persistent finish, marked by an elegant bitter touch. It is harmonious and versatile, ideal for accompanying Mediterranean starters, sushi, smoked fish and fresh cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from renowned vineyards in South Tyrol, located between the areas of Bolzano, Gries, Ora, Cortaccia and Marlengo, at altitudes between 220 and 300 metres. The roots delve into alluvial sandy soils, deep and warm soils that favour perfect ripening and aromatic expression of the grapes. The agricultural management is based on absolute respect for the environment, strictly applying the principles of biodynamic agriculture. This sustainable approach protects the local ecosystem and allows the production of fruit capable of expressing the authentic identity of the region.

How it is produced

Once the intact bunches are brought to the winery, a gentle whole-bunch pressing is carried out, essential for extracting only a slight pink hue from the skins of the Lagrein, which are naturally rich in pigments. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, thus preserving the purity of the primary aromas. The process concludes with ageing on fine lees for four months, also in steel, which gives the wine greater roundness on the palate and depth, balancing the vibrant freshness with a stable and enveloping sip.

History and Curiosities

Born in South Tyrol, this elegant wine embodies the tradition of “Kretzer” from 100% Lagrein grapes. The Alois Lageder estate cultivates its vineyards according to the strict principles of biodynamic agriculture, enhancing a unique alluvial terroir. The whole bunches undergo gentle pressing. Four months of ageing on fine lees in stainless steel gives the Lagrein Rosé DOC a juicy structure, lively freshness, and unmistakable notes of wild strawberry and cherry.
