Description
What kind of wine it is
Alamos Merlot is a still red wine with a vibrant ruby colour, capable of expressing all the richness of Argentine Merlot. On the nose, it releases clear notes of cherry and dark forest fruits, accompanied by characteristic hints of tomato leaf. The palate boasts a medium-full body and velvety tannins, creating a fresh, juicy and balanced progression of flavours. This well-defined structure makes it ideal for enhancing robust dishes such as red meats and roasts, mature cheeses and flavourful first courses.
Where it comes from
It originates in the renowned Mendoza region, from high-altitude vineyards cultivated at over fifteen hundred metres on the slopes of the Andes. In this setting, the marked temperature variation between day and night ensures the grapes ripen slowly, preserving a precious and balanced natural acidity. The composition of the Andean volcanic soils gives the wine a precise flavour profile and a solid structure, consolidating intense aromas that authentically reflect the mountain territory from which it comes.
How it is produced
The production of Alamos Merlot focuses on maximising the original identity of the fruit. Ageing lasts for nine months in a blend of French and American oak barrels, which imparts elegant notes of vanilla, dark chocolate and sweet spices in a measured way. The influence of the wood enriches the structure without ever overpowering the fresh varietal expression. To fully appreciate its persistence, it is recommended to decant for one hour before serving at a temperature of sixteen to eighteen degrees.
History and Curiosities
Alamos Merlot embodies the legacy of the Catena Zapata winery, a pioneer of high-altitude viticulture in Mendoza since 1902. The vines, cultivated at over 1,500 metres on the majestic Andean slopes, draw strength from the volcanic soils and pronounced temperature variations, developing a fresh and unmistakable structure. Over a century of family dedication culminates in a wine of vibrant elegance, enriched by expert oak ageing that delivers an extraordinarily enveloping tasting experience.
