Famoso

Information about Famoso

Grape variety Famoso
Grape colour White grape
Vigour Very good
History The first document that mentions the Famoso is represented by a table of the municipal duty of Lugo di Romagna (Ravenna), dated 1437. In the nineteenth century, several documents testify to its presence on the hills of Cesena, where it was also used for the production of grapes tableware. The twentieth century instead sees a remarkable contraction that brought it to the edge of extinction in a century. In 2000 it was identified in two old rows on the hills of Mercato Saraceno (Forlì-Cesena), whose owner indicated it, precisely, with the name "Famoso". Today it is produced in small plots by producers who have seen in this vine a wealth of aromas and biodiversity to be enhanced.
Ampelographic features Leaf: cuneiform, three-lobed or nearly whole, with V-shaped petiole sinus, from open to very open and lateral sinuses superior to V, sometimes barely mentioned; on the inferior page there are some lying hairs, with light density; irregular teeth, some with straight sides, others convex. Bunch with industrial maturity: medium, horny, often with a wing, generally sparse. Berry: medium, truncovoid, with a fairly thick and consistent green-yellow skin, and with slight to medium bloom; fairly firm flesh, with a sweet and slightly muscatel flavor.
Characteristics of the wine obtained from this grape variety The wine obtained from the Famoso grape is straw-yellow in color with greenish reflections. On the palate it is aromatic, intense.
