Description
What kind of wine it is
Reseca by Gulfi is an organic wine that expresses the essence of Etna Rosso in Sicily. Made from a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes, vinified with a long maceration and matured in oak, it presents an elegant pale ruby red colour. The bouquet offers intense spicy notes, enriched by delicate floral and balsamic nuances, while on the palate it is dry and mineral, supported by a firm tannic structure that defines its solid and harmonious body. It pairs ideally with meat dishes, pulses and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the Poggio Vineyard, situated at eight hundred metres above sea level in the municipality of Randazzo, on the northern slope of Mount Etna. The century-old vines sink their roots into volcanic soils, characterised by tuffaceous and sandy components, on lava stone terraces surrounded by chestnut woods. The cool high-altitude climate encourages slow and balanced ripening. The traditional bush vine training system and low yields give the glass a pure expression, marked by a distinctive territorial savouriness.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place at the beginning of autumn. The red winemaking process includes a long maceration on the skins, essential for extracting aromatic complexity, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures for about two years in French oak barrels, completing its evolution with a further twenty-four months of bottle ageing. To appreciate every nuance, it is recommended to decant for one hour and serve at a temperature between fourteen and sixteen degrees Celsius.
History and Curiosities
Born from the expertise of oenologist Salvo Foti, Gulfi Reseca is a fine organic wine that embodies the energy of the northern slope of Etna. It comes to life at eight hundred metres above sea level in the Poggio Vineyard, where century-old vines trained as bush vines on lava stone terraces yield a pure and concentrated fruit. After a long maceration on the skins, the wine matures for two years in French oak and rests for an equal period in the bottle. This meticulous care shapes an Etna Rosso DOC with a dry, mineral palate, enhanced by firm tannins and enveloping spicy notes.
