Description
What kind of wine it is
Otronia Block III & VI Chardonnay is a still white wine from Argentina characterised by elegant notes of peach, green apple and white flowers. On the palate, the Chardonnay stands out for its vivid acidity, pronounced savouriness and fresh hints of lemon zest. Its persistence and complex structure make it ideal for pairing with roast poultry, shellfish and flavoursome blue cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the organic vineyards of Otronia located in Sarmiento, in the province of Chubut. The rows, which stretch along Lake Musters on the forty-fifth parallel, represent one of the southernmost vineyards in the world. The cold and extreme climate of Patagonia, marked by intense winds and strong temperature variations, encourages slow ripening. This unique environment gives the wine a vibrant tension and distinct mineral notes, outlining a saline profile and excellent ageing potential.
How it is produced
The vinification of Otronia Block III & VI Chardonnay is designed to preserve the natural freshness of the fruit through meticulous selection. At the end of fermentation, the wine matures for a period between eighteen and twenty months in French oak barrels. This prolonged ageing enriches its texture, giving complexity on the palate and enhancing the refined fruity and floral aromas. The entire process highlights the lively acidity and authentic expression of the terroir, offering a savoury and extremely elegant sip.
History and Curiosities
The Otronia Block III & VI Chardonnay originates from organic vineyards located along the 45th parallel in Argentine Patagonia, on the shores of Lake Musters. In one of the most extreme and southernmost terroirs in the world, the sharp temperature fluctuations and icy winds shape a wine with a distinctive personality and extraordinary ageing potential. The result of the expertise of the award-winning oenologist Juan Pablo Murgia, the 2019 vintage displays vibrant acidity and pure freshness, outstanding qualities that earned it 95 points from James Suckling.
