Description
What kind of wine it is
Santigaini by Capichera is a white wine from the Isola dei Nuraghi made from Vermentino grapes. It displays a bright straw yellow colour with golden highlights, revealing a complex aromatic profile rich in citrus, flowers and honeyed notes. The palate is vibrant and marked by pronounced minerality. Hints of sage and lavender accompany a long, maritime finish with spicy touches. Its elegant structure pairs perfectly with shellfish and grilled fish.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from Gallura, specifically from the Coddu Ecchju cru in the municipality of Arzachena. The vineyards, located between seventy and one hundred and ten metres above sea level, grow on sandy and rocky soils of granitic origin, which give the wine its typical savoury character. The high planting density and low yields ensure a consistent aromatic concentration, precisely expressing the connection with the Sardinian landscape.
How it is produced
Production begins with a four-week maceration in stainless steel tanks to define the structure and maintain the integrity of the aromas. Ageing continues for nine months in steel, followed by maturation in barrels for six months. The measured use of wood enriches the texture on the palate without masking the freshness, preserving a delicate creaminess typical of this label.
History and Curiosities
The term Santigaini means “October” in Gallurese and gives its name to the prestigious first cru born in the renowned “Coddu Ecchju” vineyard in Arzachena. The historic Capichera winery, founded by the Ragnedda family in 1975, signs this exceptional 2021 vintage: a Vermentino Isola dei Nuraghi IGT that expresses the most authentic soul of Sardinia. Awarded the prestigious Tre Stelle Oro Veronelli, this oenological masterpiece is born from typically granitic and sandy soils, embodying excellence and territorial identity.
