History |
Sagrantino: the origins of this variety still being debated. However, it is likely it originates from Greece and was imported to Italy by Byzantine Monks. Evidence of its cultivation have been found in territories around Montefalco since the Middles Ages. In the past, this wine was mainly used for religious ceremonies, hence the name “sagrantino” which alludes to sacredness. Today, with a few more than 600 hectares in production, it is the Umbrian wine best known and appreciated for its intensity, richness and its ability to age thanks to the high content of polyphenols. |
