The La Casuccia vineyard covers 12.58 hectares, 6 planted in 1978 and the rest in 2007. The plot has been terraced to improve aspecting and ensure more uniform ripening. La Casuccia is split into 9 plots of land and in the best vintages it is typically plot numbers 49, 46 and 45 which contribute to producing the limited quantities of this vineyard selection.

Colour

Deep, dark ruby red, almost impenetrable, with crimson hues.

Bouquet

With fruity notes of red berries and forest berries, some spice suggesting vanilla pod, and tertiary notes of pipe tobacco and leather.

Flavour

Stylish and delicate, with subtle but noticeable tannins. A mouthfilling wine with a full flavour. Nicely juicy with a long finish.

Vinification Fermentation was started using ambient yeasts, separately for each variety and in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 30–33 °C, with manual pumpovers and total cuvaison of 26 days for the Sangiovese and 25 days for the Merlot. After first racking, the wine was transferred to barriques for malolactic fermentation.
Ageing Assemblage of the 2 varieties took place after malolactic fermentation, then the wine was transferred to fine-grain oak barriques, of which 40% were new and the rest a year old.
