Description

Still white wine from Etna Superiore DOC, 12.5% ABV, produced by Tenuta di Fessina. 100% Carricante, 2023 vintage. A wine made in Milo, on the eastern slopes of Etna, from Carricante grapes grown at 900 meters above sea level. Fermentation and aging for two years in stainless steel, followed by six months in tonneaux and two years in bottle. The result is a straw yellow wine with green highlights, with a herbaceous bouquet of lemon thyme, vanilla, wax, and citrus. On the palate, it is complex and vertical, sharp, and has a savory finish.

From the beginning, Tentua di Fessina’s desire was to create "a place of beauty, between earth and spirit", rather than a cellar in the strict sense in which people, skills and energies could converge and in turn merge to enrich the intangible heritage of the Estate, made up of professional and human relationships, exchanges and ideas around the culture of wine and good living.

The project took shape in 2007 when the Tuscan producer Silvia and her husband Roberto purchased an old Nerello Mascalese vineyard dating back to the last century.

Soil composition Milo, on the eastern slope of Etna, is the home of Carricante grapes, often lashed by heavy rains and has the highest percentage of rainfall on the entire island. The soil composition is complex with extreme pedo-climatic conditions, which if skilfully sustained are able to give wines unique in taste and longevity. The soil, made up of centuries of volcanic activity, has several layers of minerals and salts, pumice, lapilli, fine and light ash. This terroir, which has a sub-acid reaction, is particularly fertile and capable of producing a very high total acidity. Here Carricante finds its pure and typical expression. The unique conditions allow grapes to be grown at incredibly high altitudes, with great potential for ripening and late ageing.
