Description

What kind of wine it is

Molceo Lugana Riserva by Ottella is a white wine from Veneto made from Turbiana grapes, harvested late and left to partially dry. This Lugana Riserva, with its intense golden yellow colour, offers notes of candied citrus, yellow flowers and pronounced minerality. On the palate, it is soft, juicy and structured, balanced by a lively freshness that leads to a long and persistent finish. Ageing on the lees in steel and barrels gives the wine remarkable complexity and a strong propensity for ageing.

Where it comes from

The roots of this Lugana Riserva lie in the estate vineyards south of Lake Garda, in a naturally suited area around San Benedetto di Lugana. The beating heart of the terroir is represented by glacial-origin soils, characterised by a complex layering of clay and limestone. This unique morphology creates an ideal environment for the vine's vegetative cycle, giving the wine pronounced savouriness and distinct mineral elegance. The agronomic management promotes the health of the plant and low yields, ensuring excellent aromatic concentration in every bunch.

How it is produced

The process begins in October with a late harvest, followed by 25 days of drying. In the winery, there is a brief maceration on the skins and fermentation in barriques, partly accompanied by malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures for 16-18 months on fine lees, resting mainly in steel with a small portion in large barrels, tonneaux and barriques.

History and Curiosities

Molceo by Ottella is a Lugana DOC Riserva that embodies the dedication of four generations of the Montresor family. Its structural richness and remarkable ageing potential are celebrated by the 3 Gambero Rosso glasses, a testament to an elegance with unforgettable charm.

The Montresor family has been running Ottella for four generations. The company was started by Lodovico, father of Francesco and Michele, a wine entrepreneur and a passionate art collector. A long history: in the book La provincia di Verona e i suoi vini, 1900, the historian Giovan Battista Perez testifies that the Montresor family was the only one to produce Lugana in the province of Verona in 1905.

Ottella is a company with 90 hectares in Lugana. Lodovico and Lamberto work alongside their father and uncle in the company... from father to son: past, present and future. An Italian story, a beautiful one.
