Description
What type of wine it is
Ca del Magro from Monte del Frà is a still white wine from the Veneto region based on Garganega grapes, providing an elegant interpretation of Custoza Superiore. On the nose, it presents a rich aromatic profile of wildflowers, Golden Delicious apple, tropical fruit, and vanilla. On the palate, it is dry and savoury, with a dense and oily structure balanced by a pleasant acidity that enhances the fruity component. Awarded the 'Tre Bicchieri' by Gambero Rosso, this white wine stands out for its excellent ageing potential, developing a remarkable complexity of flavour over time.
Where it comes from
This white wine comes from the historic morainic hills of Custoza, south-east of Lake Garda. The vineyards consist of vines over forty years old with roots deep in a post-glacial terroir characterised by calcareous, clayey, gravelly, and sandy soils. This geological composition is essential for giving the wine its distinct savoury character. Thanks to a rigorous zonation programme, the different parcels are vinified separately to best enhance the authentic territorial expression of the Venetian landscape.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place in several stages between September and the beginning of October. The grapes undergo cryomaceration and soft pressing, followed by a slow fermentation in stainless steel. The wine then rests on its lees until May to enrich its body. A selected portion of Garganega ferments and matures on the lees in small oak barrels for about four months. After the blend is created, the cycle concludes with bottle ageing for at least six months, ensuring an excellent harmony of flavour.

Almost two centuries later, in 1958, Massimo Bonomo rented two rooms and the adjacent fields. His family opened a Frasca, a typical Venetian bulk wine shop. They made wine and grew peaches, strawberries, and wheat.
Today, after over 60 years, the Bonomo family is still managing Monte del Frà: the second generation, with the brothers Eligio and Claudio, has been joined by the third with Marica, Silvia, and Massimo. The years pass, and the generations change, but something will always stay the same: the utter commitment to the land. Read more
