Description

What kind of wine it is

Iancura from the Hauner winery is a still white wine that expresses the essence of the Sicilian lands. It is created from a blend of Malvasia and Inzolia, varieties that provide a fresh, vertical profile with pronounced savouriness. To the eye, it displays an intense straw-yellow colour enriched with golden-green reflections. The bouquet opens with aromas of white flowers, apple, citron, gooseberry and elderflower, interwoven with iodised notes and a hint of minerality and smokiness. This balance introduces the identity of the territory, offering a tense and satisfying sip.

Where it comes from

The roots of this wine lie in Santa Marina di Salina, in the Aeolian Islands. The vineyards grow on volcanic soils rich in pumice, organic matter and mineral elements, situated between fifty and one hundred metres above sea level. The steep slopes, reaching up to thirty-five percent, influence the wine’s flavour development, imparting a distinct saline imprint. The Hauner estate, founded in 1968, is now led by Carlo Junior and oenologist Andrea Hauner, who are dedicated to enhancing the island’s extraordinary winemaking vocation.

How it is produced

The process begins with careful harvesting in the vineyards. To preserve the aromatic clarity of the blend, maturation involves ageing in stainless steel for six months. The wine then completes its cycle with an additional three-month rest, an essential phase to balance the citrus notes with the pronounced savoury streak. The result is a broad and lively sip, characterised by a marked saline persistence in perfect harmony with the authentic expression of the Sicilian lands.

History and Curiosities

Produced in Santa Marina di Salina, this wine preserves the legacy of the winery founded in 1968 by Carlo Hauner. The name recalls the Aeolian term for “whiteness”, evoking the enchantment of the sea merging with the sky. Today, the estate covers twenty hectares of steep volcanic soils, from which around one hundred and twenty thousand bottles are produced each year. Under the guidance of Carlo Junior and the oenologist Andrea, the project continues to enhance the island tradition, offering a captivating glass that reflects the most authentic soul of the Aeolian Islands.
