Description

What kind of wine it is

Franz Gojer Kerner Karneid is a still white wine with an intense aromatic profile, an authentic expression of the Kerner grape variety. On the nose, it offers a fruity bouquet with notes of peach and citrus, enriched by a hint of nutmeg. On the palate, it reveals a medium body and a distinctly linear sip, supported by refreshing acidic nuances that enhance its liveliness. The finish is marked by a persistent fruity aftertaste. This balanced structure makes it ideal as an aperitif and perfectly suited to accompany fresh salads, vegetarian dishes, and flavourful grilled fish recipes.

Where it comes from

This white wine originates from the vineyards of Cornedo all’Isarco, on the western and north-western slopes of South Tyrol. The Kerner vines grow at an altitude between 550 and 600 metres, ensuring optimal freshness and acidity. The soil is characterised by a sandy terrain formed from the disintegration of porphyritic rocks, enriched by ancient sediments of granite, basalt, and glacial-era gneiss. This geological matrix, typical of the mountainous environment, imparts a pronounced minerality and a tense flavour profile to the wine, precisely reflecting its place of origin.

How it is produced

Production is distinguished by a double harvest period: the first picking preserves acidity, while the second enhances body and aromatic intensity. In the winery, the grapes undergo gentle gravity processing to minimise mechanical stress before pressing. This is followed by natural cold sedimentation of the must for forty-eight hours, preceding a slow and strictly controlled fermentation. Finally, the wine matures through a slow decantation until spring arrives, an essential step to stabilise the structure and define the overall elegance of the sip.

History and Curiosities

The Franz Gojer Kerner Karneid embodies the genuine dedication of an independent winemaker from South Tyrol. The excellence of this white wine stems from a double harvest period: the first picking preserves freshness, while the second enhances its aroma and body. The vines grow in Cornedo all’Isarco, at an altitude between 550 and 600 metres, with roots sinking into porphyry soils and glacial sediments that impart a pronounced minerality. Finally, a gentle gravity-fed vinification and slow decantation until spring preserve its elegant character intact.
