Description
Lacryma Christi Bianco DOC is a still white wine produced in Campania, specifically in the Vesuvius area. The history of this wine dates back to Roman times; as early as the 5th century BC, there is evidence of the cultivation of grapes for its production along the slopes of the volcano. The winemaking work was then continued by the monks of the area starting in the Middle Ages. Legend has it that the name of this wine derives from the tears shed by Jesus when Lucifer stole a piece of Paradise to shape the Gulf of Naples, and that these tears enriched the land, making it favorable for the growth of vines. Characteristic of these areas is the volcanic soil, therefore lava-like and porous, which tends to retain moisture and then release it, providing the vines with the ideal growing environment, combined with the mild climate typical of the region. The Lacryma Christi Bianco, exemplified by the renowned Feudi San Gregorio Lacryma Christi Bianco, is obtained from a blend of two native grapes called Coda di Volpe and Falanghina. The vineyards grow along the slopes of Vesuvius at an altitude of about 170 meters above sea level and with a southeast-facing exposure. It is precisely the volcanic nature of these mineral-rich soils that gives the wine its typical organoleptic characteristics, such as its freshness and citrus aroma. The vinification involves fermentation in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16-18°C, and the subsequent maturation takes place over a short period of time, around five months, at the end of which the final result is obtained, unique and unmistakable.
